I have a problem with USB device When I attempt to install Gentoo linux on my laptop. When i boot from Bootable CD-ROM First, I meet "BOOT:" prompt and press return. But I can't go next installation process . The machine is locking up, and there are nothing error message and any process. It locks up after loading or attempting to load USB_uhci. The same occurs on Redhat system, And reading in Redhat's forum found that I can resolve the lockup using "boot: text nousb" option and later revove the USB_uhci module from my startup scripts later after installation... I still have usb support for some reason... but Gentoo linux provide any option like that?? "Linux nousb"? I have a Compaq 1201Z and just need to pass some bootloader option to temporarly disable USB and not look for it so we can start the install process THere is no options avalable in the bios to disable usb or anything for that matter. The USB problem is just something flaky with some laptops and somehow fixes itself later after installation
I'm tossing this old bug up for grabs. It is not a laptop-specific bug, and I am not sure of the answer.
this is essentially a kernel commandline option, what I recommend is booting any CD that works, and then switching to the gentoo CD and installing from there, gentoo isn't picky about what environment the chroot installation is done from. I'll check with Daniel Robbins when I get a chance about the options available for the linux boot CD
if this still sucks, poke me later.
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this.
