Description Thomas Witt 2009-07-28 17:29:55 UTC
# Matthias Schwarzott <zzam@gentoo.org> (3 Jul 2009)
# It needs libblkid provided by util-linux-2.16 not yet released
>=sys-fs/udev-142

util-linux-2.16 is in ~arch, so this seems obsolete.
also, this breaks devicekit-power from the gnome-overlay.

Reproducible: Always

I think you're right about that mask entry being obsolete... assigning to udev maintainers.
Comment 2 Matthias Schwarzott gentoo-dev 2009-07-29 08:10:31 UTC
Ok, the description is too old.
Basically I wanted to wait for Bug #278302 to be resolved (all users of vol_id and libvolume_id being converted to blkid and libblkid).

For now the only left issue is Bug #278305 (mdadm using vol_id in udev rules).
So we can unmask udev soon.
Another question is: How should all those udev extras be handled? For now they get enabled/disabled all together using USE=extras that is disabled by default.

don't unmask it.
at least udev-145 is very unstable for me.
all apps start crashing in *random* time. it needs testing.

Please give some examples. Which apps do crash?
Best is to open a new bug and make it block this one.

any app may crash. mostly which do some active disk operations: emerge, gcc, firefox(working with sqlite?). but seems its reproducible not always, it may work fine on next boot for example.

i've downgraded udev and now everything works fine. I don't want to test it anymore until it become stable.

strange. udev should not influence any app after creating device nodes.

Well fine. But then we can have no more progress and need to unmask it to get this bug reported by someone else.

mask removed.
