Kopete emerges without problem, but when invoked there are no icons or plugins in the configuration dialog. With no plugins, kopete is unusable. I notice that the plugins get installed under /usr/lib/kde3 and the icons under /usr/share/apps/kopete/icons. Neither of these is under /usr/kde/3.1 and there are no other libraries in /usr/lib/kde3 apart for those for kopete. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge kopete 2. start kopete 3. call up configuration dialog. kde-base/kdepim-3.1.2 net-im/kopete-0.7.1 Portage 2.0.49-r3 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1, 2.4.20-gentoo-r5) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.20-gentoo-r5 i686 Pentium II (Deschutes) distcc 2.8 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocol 1) (default port 3632) [enabled] ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=i686 -funroll-loops -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=i686 -funroll-loops -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs sandbox ccache distcc" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j4" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 oss apm avi crypt cups encode foomaticdb gif jpeg gnome libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx mpeg ncurses nls pdflib png quicktime spell truetype xml2 xmms xv zlib alsa gdbm berkdb slang readline arts svga tcltk java X sdl gpm tcpd pam ssl perl python esd imlib oggvorbis gtk qt kde motif opengl ldap amd apache2 auctex autofs curl dnd emacs flash foreign-package imagemagick imap md5sum mozsvg mule pda postgres tetex type1 wxwindows xface xvid zeo"
This is the correct place for these files to be installed to, as it allows us to keep portability through different kde versions. Have you changed your kde setup somehow? I just emerged kopete and it found the plugins automagically. Try running kbuildsycoca and see if it needs to regenerate the system cache.
In case you haven't read it yet, there is an item about this issue in the kopete FAQ on http://kopete.kde.org Maybe it helps.
perhaps running a 'kbuildsycoca' will help?
Yup, rebuild the system cache will fix it.
