Description Tiago Pereira 2009-07-27 11:35:10 UTC
Greetings,

We've a new Gentoo Portage and Distfiles mirror on IP and IPv6 with Gigabit. It supports http, ftp and rsync access and it's synced from cesium.di.uminho.pt. Besides, we have an official wiki in http://ftp.rnl.ist.utl.pt with a how-to per mirror to explain how to sync from our server.

We'd like to became an official mirror, therefore, we request authorization to sync from your master server.

Here are some more details about the mirror:

Mirror domain name: ftp.rnl.ist.utl.pt
Geographical Location of the mirror: Lisbon, Portugal
Supported access methods: http, ftp, rsync
URLs:
http://ftp.rnl.ist.utl.pt/pub/gentoo/gentoo-{portage,distfiles}, ftp://ftp.rnl.ist.utl.pt/pub/gentoo/gentoo-{portage,distfiles}, rsync://ftp.rnl.ist.utl.pt/pub/gentoo/gentoo-{portage,distfiles}
IP: For incoming connections, use 193.136.164.11. For outgoing connections (that is, the IP will see when we'll try to rsync from your master server) is 193.136.164.250. We also have an IPv6 address: 2001:690:2100:80::6.
Email: rnl@rnl.ist.utl.pt

One important update:

The IP address of our mirror server has changed and is now
193.136.164.6. The IPv6 address is still the same.

Hi, Thanks for being patient. The mirror-admin team has been understaffed. I will add your mirror to our test system soon.

Hello, Your source mirror is now in the testing system. We cannot accept your gentoo-portage mirror as is. See Code listing 2.3 of http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml - Specifically, In order for us to add you to DNS, the URL needs to be rsync://<domain_name>/gentoo-portage

Ah, interesting. I see that you are already on the mirrors2.xml page. Can you fix your mirror to sync every 4 hours?

279308 ftp ERROR Distfiles at ftp://ftp.rnl.ist.utl.pt/pub/gentoo/gentoo-distfiles is lagging (delta is 00d 09h 11m 29s)

Greetings,

Actually, we're syncing the distfiles mirror every 4 hours and the portage mirror every 30 minutes. The problem seems to be that we're not syncing from any official mirror, we're syncing from another Portuguese University and they may not be syncing in this timely manner.

What mirror should we use right now?

Best regards,

Please use ftp.ussg.iu.edu::gentoo-distfiles as documented here: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml

Did you fix your gentoo-portage rsync module, as pointed out in comment #4 ?

Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added your mirror to our list at http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors2.xml. Please start syncing from masterdistfiles.gentoo.org as the email I have sent to you instructs. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors-subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send out notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org as this application is used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors. Thanks for the hardware and bandwidth!

Additionally, open a new bug for your gentoo-portage mirror when/if you fix your rsync module (comment #4).
