I monitor gaim releases so there is no need to submit bugs for them. I was waiting for a new release of gaim-encryption, which came out late last night. FYI gaim-0.67 works fine for me.
The gaim people have changed things so the 'make install' process is trying to write directly to the perl lib path instead of following our prefix designation. It will take a little time to hash out.
Confirmed that 'USE="-perl" emerge' gaim will work fine. Consulting lostlogic on whether or not to go forward with that. Here is the text of the error as it happens in 'make install': Making install in perl make[2]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/gaim-0.68/work/gaim-0.68/plugins/p erl' make[3]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/gaim-0.68/work/gaim-0.68/plugins/p erl/common' make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gaim-0.68/work/gaim-0.68/plugins/pe rl/common' make[3]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/gaim-0.68/work/gaim-0.68/plugins/p erl' make[4]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/gaim-0.68/work/gaim-0.68/plugins/p erl/common' ACCESS DENIED mkdir: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i686-linux/auto/Gaim mkdir /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i686-linux/auto/Gaim: Permission denied at /usr/lib/p erl5/5.8.0/ExtUtils/Install.pm line 137 make[4]: *** [pure_perl_install] Error 255 make[4]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gaim-0.68/work/gaim-0.68/plugins/pe rl/common' /bin/sh ../../mkinstalldirs /var/tmp/portage/gaim-0.68/image//usr/lib/gaim /bin/sh ../../libtool --silent --mode=install /bin/install -c perl.la /var/tmp /portage/gaim-0.68/image//usr/lib/gaim/perl.la LSchiere2 in #gaim says they are aware of the problem but do not know what causes the problem and so cannot find the solution. He says that it doesn't happen for everyone, but he does get the problem himself.
gaim-0.68 with gaim-encryption-2.10 is in portage. Thanks for playing.
