Description NickNill 2009-07-20 06:40:32 UTC
I have notebook, and when i try to search wireless networks, iwlist tell me that no scan result.
In my dmesg i found this "[ 4150.876557] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready" when i load ath9k module.
I think it's a bug of gentoo kernel, because in other systems it's work right
My wireless card is
07:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5418 802.11abgn Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
Subsystem: Atheros Communications Inc. Device 3072

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. load module
2. iwlist scan
Actual Results:
No scan results

Expected Results:
must be some network

localhost ~ # emerge --info

Can you try gentoo-sources-2.6.30-r3 and see if the bug occurs there too?
There are some patches for ath9k code, both in 2.6.30 and in 2.6.31-rc's.

I have install 2.6.31-rc3, nothing changed - my wlan card don`t work. I had try to install vanila kernel, but wifi won`t work, maybe this isn`t kernel bug?

This might be the same as: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13581

Can you post your full dmesg? If this bug is the same, maybe you can help provide the requested data in the upstream bug?

Sorry, i can`t do this. Maybe next month.

I don't think this is a legitimate bug. I've been ath9k sucessfully for sometime now with my 9280. The 2.6.29 series kernels work the best. It's the best wireless card/driver combo I've ever had in linux. 2.6.30 works too, but not as well. Someone botched the code (upstream). Max txpower went from 27dBm to 20dBm and the signal suffers accordingly. 23dBm txpower is the default for the driver with 2.6.29 and seems to be sufficient.

You must have something misconfigured.
