Description Rafal Lalik 2009-07-18 13:51:47 UTC
Proposition of ebuild for ueagle modems E4 series. Firmware is not include in regular ueagle-atm and have to be installed from other source.

ebuild for ueagle4-atm
Comment 2 Alin Năstac (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-19 20:53:40 UTC
I see you used a modified version of the ueagle-atm ebuild.

I have following questions:
1) Why using same DESCRIPTION? If firmware files are (more or less) for the same product, wouldn't be preferable to install both of them in net-dialup/ueagle-atm ebuild?

2) Is this firmware working for you? If yes, can the README file installed by ueagle-atm be used for this firmware as well?
Comment 3 Rafal Lalik 2009-08-19 23:47:04 UTC
That is true, this ebuild is based on net-dialup/ueagle-atm. It works for me, but i haven't check that all features in ebuild are also required for this firmware. It was written quickly: just for quick run of my new modem. I filed it here for others whom ebuild could help (some people ask me so I refer them to this page).

To answer to your questions:

1. Bad DESCRIPTION is my oversight. But new DESCRIPTION is "Eagle USB E4" instead of old "Eagle USB". The products (ADSL modems) are the same, but net-dialup/ueagle-atm supports only versions E1, E2 and E3 of Eagle, for E4 new driver is dedicated. Thus, it is completely new branch, with new version numbers at all. That is why I've prepared new ebuild. If you like feel free to merge them to one ebuild. What is common for these two ebuilds is that in final they install firmware to the same location: /lib/firmware/ueagle-atm, thus all files are in the same place.

2. Yes, *it works for me*. The README form net-dialup/ueagle-atm does not work for this ebuild. Firmware is distributed in binary format, is already compiled, and everything you need to do is unpack and install in /lib/firmware/ueagle-atm. What more, old README is useless in reason of it point installation dir to different location (/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware) than gentoo-way installation location. If you really prefer to have README then an ebuild is the best place to generate new README for this package.

A cleaned up version of this ebuild has been added to the tree. I didn't found anything wrong in the README file provided by ueagle-atm package, except that baselayout instructions couldn't work on baselayout-2, so I've updated baselayout stuff and added it to this package.
Where did you saw a reference to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware?
Comment 5 Rafal Lalik 2009-08-22 16:51:25 UTC
Well, maybe we are talking about different README files?

"My one" is /var/tmp/portage/net-dialup/ueagle-atm-1.1-r2/work/ueagle-data-src-1.1/README
Comment 6 Alin Năstac (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-22 18:07:20 UTC
I'm speaking about /usr/portage/net-dialup/ueagle-atm/files/README, the only README file that actually gets installed in /usr/share/doc.
