Description Akkenoth 2009-07-16 13:30:26 UTC
After emerge --sync (sth about 0:30 today) I'm not able to emerge anything - every time I get "failure unpacking" error.
It happens every time, even if just rebuild an existing package.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge --sync
2.emerge anything
Actual Results:
ebuild error - failure unpacking

Expected Results:
unpack, compile and install package

my emerge --info
Comment 5 Akkenoth 2009-07-16 13:34:41 UTC
oops sorry for including emerge --info twice.
Comment 6 Akkenoth 2009-07-16 13:37:31 UTC
did emerge --sync again (5:35 PM), problem still exists
Comment 7 Sebastian Luther (few) 2009-07-16 13:39:57 UTC
Have you ruled out a hardware failure, filesystem corruption, out of space? Are you able to unpack those files by hand? Maybe some tool is broken by -O3. In this case http://tinderbox.dev.gentoo.org/default-linux/x86/ has binary packages for you.
Comment 8 Akkenoth 2009-07-16 18:12:10 UTC
Yes, I can unpack it by hand.
I did emerge --sync one more time, but it still does not work.
What you mean about -03? //Im quite new to gentoo ;)
And which packages?
BTW. this site has, i.e., old version of pinentry.
Comment 9 Akkenoth 2009-07-16 18:15:19 UTC
And it's surely not end of disk space - sth ~6GB free.
Comment 10 Akkenoth 2009-07-16 18:28:33 UTC
Resolved it. Dunno what bug was that, but I untared tar-1.22 (from /usr/portage/distfiles), executed "make install" and voila!
Comment 11 Sebastian Luther (few) 2009-07-17 20:23:01 UTC
nothing fixed here

The compiler flag you specified with CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS in make.conf. -O3 is known to break things, use -O2 instead.

Some unrelated comments:
a) ~x86 isn't something I would recommend for beginners.
b) Looking at the amount of use flags you have enabled, the desktop profile might be worth a look. (eselect profile list) It specifies a lot use flags, useful for desktop users, but no real need to change to it now.

btw: Welcome to gentoo :)
