Description Nathan Zachary (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-07-08 01:15:15 UTC
When trying to build tint2-0.7, it fails saying that:

checking for XINERAMA... configure: error: Package requirements (xinerama) were not met:

Package xineramaproto was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xineramaproto.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'xineramaproto', required by 'Xinerama', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables XINERAMA_CFLAGS
and XINERAMA_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

 * ERROR: x11-misc/tint2-0.7 failed.
 * Call stack:
 *               ebuild.sh, line   49:  Called src_configure
 *             environment, line   89:  Called econf '--enable-battery' '--disable-examples'
 *               ebuild.sh, line  534:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *   			die "econf failed"
 *  The die message:
 *   econf failed

If I remember correctly, there used to be a USE flag for xinerama in tint2. However, it seems like it has been removed. Has xinerama become a dependency? If so, I believe it should be included in the ebuild. If not, I'm not sure why this error is occurring.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge tint2 without xinerama installed
Actual Results:
tint2 fails to build

Expected Results:
tint2 should build without xinerama

Modified ebuild for tint2

I simply added x11-proto/xineramaproto to RDEPEND.

Sorry, accidentally submitted without saying that it is a simple workaround to build tint2-0.7. It requires xineramaproto, which is separate from just the libXinerama. I added it to the ebuild.

Modified ebuild for tint2

Also seems to be a runtime dependency--not just a build dependency.

Thank you for reporting, fixed in cvs.
xineramaproto is just a build-time dependency, libXinerama is both.
