Please remove rsync1.nz.gentoo.org (linux.gamers.net.nz) from the official gentoo mirror list. Our ISP (Orcon) are beginning to charge Gamers.net.nz for bandwidth, and so it is no longer viable for us to continue hosting a Gentoo rysnc server. Sadly this move has resulted in the closing of the services provided by Gamers (which primarily provides public game servers, but also linux mirrors). The machine will be shut down by the 20th of July, the rsync service will likely be shutdown before this time. Hopefully this mirror was helpful to people in NZ, fingers crossed another NZ provider steps up. Reproducible: Always
I have contacted another NZ ISP who already has a Linux mirror (http://debian.ihug.co.nz/) for many distributions, and asked them if they are willing to take the place of the current NZ Gentoo RSync server. That said, they have to actually update the portage folder... It's 3 years out of date :) The owner will hopefully be able to get this up and running again without a problem, so I'll keep you posted.
Great news! Vodafone NZ (http://www.vodafone.co.nz/) has agreed to fix their Portage folder (http://mirror.ihug.co.nz/gentoo/) which has been out of date for three years and is now syncing twice an hour. However, something unexpected happened as a result of the fix. The distfiles folder and others containing ISOs, stage3s, etc all disappeared i.e. were completely replaced by the new Portage files. I will contact them now and have this restored.
Kat, Thanks for the update. Removed rsync1.nz.gentoo.org from ACLs, removed from DNS. Thanks for the hardware and bandwidth donation, your services helped many Gentoo Users. (You have no more obligation to monitor the gentoo-mirrors mailing list.) I made rsync.nz.gentoo.org a CNAME to rsync.au.gentoo.org in case any users are still using that address.
