Description Michael 2009-07-05 18:26:04 UTC
In my experience there is alot to go wrong with intel chipset graphics driver. I had various problems based upon various combinations of all the graphics components.

I suggest a post-emerge-message for the Intel driver:
x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel

That says:

If you use <xorg-server-1.6 with EXA you need to compile CONFIG_AGP_INTEL as a module.

It took me a rather long time to give this out, since most google results were about the kernel-based mode switching!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Using kernel 2.6.30, compile CONFIG_AGP_INTEL into the kernel, not as a module
2. Use Xorg-server 1.5.3
3. Try to start X

Actual Results:
Xorg fails to start because of 'invalid argument' on the agpgart device.

Using Kernel 2.6.30-r2, not sure if it is the same on other kernels.
