Description Andrey Vihrov 2009-07-01 10:25:19 UTC
I have been using this driver for a long time with "Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)" and kernels .28/.29. It proved to be rather solid and didn't cause any problems, even under heavy load. Additionally, there seem to be no regressions from earlier versions of this driver.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

I'm using it on .30 too. It is no problems too.

How did you get it to compile for .30 without patching it?

we are talking about -r1 not -r2

-r2 is still bugged as I've written into a bug report.

I vote too for "stabilizing" this driver.

I'm using it without any problem with g-s.30-r2 and draft N works like a charm too.

-r1 fails same way so I do not see how you all have compiled it.

have you enabled :
CONFIG_LIB80211=y
CONFIG_LIB80211_CRYPT_WEP=y
CONFIG_LIB80211_CRYPT_CCMP=y
CONFIG_LIB80211_CRYPT_TKIP=y

In your kernel configuration?

 Umm your using an extremely old config if you still have LIB80211_CRYPT options are no longer avaliable in 2.6.30.
Comment 7 Jory A. Pratt gentoo-dev 2009-07-10 01:59:52 UTC
I just checked on this deeper, It appears the ebuild should make a check on CONFIG_COMPAT_NET_DEV_OPS to ensure proper building on 2.6.30.

These options are still available and necessaries to compile this driver.
"-*- Common routines for IEEE802.11 drivers"
and should be enabled by themselves with a proper kernel configuration.
For example (my configuration):
"HOSTAP && NETDEVICES && !S390 && WLAN_80211"

As you notice HOSTAP is required to compile those drivers without compiling other (not needed) drivers.
And, as you will find if you look for HOSTAP, this option enables:
"WIRELESS_EXT && CRYPTO && CRYPTO_ARC4 && CRYPTO_ECB && CRYPTO_AES && RYPTO_MICHAEL_MIC && CRYPTO_ECB && CRC32 && LIB80211 && LIB80211_CRYPT_WEP && LIB80211_CRYPT_TKIP && LIB80211_CRYPT_CCMP" that are the cryptographic options I've suggest to compile in your kernel to make broadcom-sta drivers working properly.

BTW: I agree. Kernel .30 needs CONFIG_COMPAT_NET_DEV_OPS option selected as well

CONFIG_COMPAT_NET_DEV_OPS had been removed from kernel version 2.6.31. Did anyone manage to use this driver with 2.6.31?

r3 isn't available anymore in portage.
Please upgrade to -r6 and enjoy it ;)

Hmm, how is this bug RESOLVED/FIXED? There are no stable versions of the software in Portage, and no other pending stabilization requests.
