If you write code like this: QList<QByteArray> fmts = QImageWriter::supportedImageFormats(); foreach(QByteArray f, fmts) qDebug(" %s", f.constData()); the list is bmp ico jpeg jpg png ppm tif tiff xbm xpm In the ebuilds, qt-core is configured with -no-gif but qt-gui is configured with -qt-gif. /usr/lib64/qt4/plugins/imageformats/libqgif.so exists, and equery says it belongs to qt-gui. Maybe it is ruled out somehow because qt-core was configured with -no-gif? But that's also hard to believe because I think some of those other image formats had to come from plugins as well. Qt does not support writing GIF images. Have you actually read the documentation before filing this bug? http://doc.trolltech.com/4.5/qimagewriter.html#supportedImageFormats http://doc.trolltech.com/4.5/qimagereader.html#supportedImageFormats The qgif plugin is indeed loaded correctly by QImageReader.
Oops you are right. It's the first time I had tried to write a GIF from Qt actually; I assumed it could write everything that it can read.
