I noticed that several ebuild don't work and exit with libtool: compile: cannot determine name of library object from `' not all ebuild are affected Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. just emerge an affected ebuild (gnumeric, evolution. xchat....) 2. 3. Actual Results: libtool: compile: cannot determine name of library object from `' Expected Results: a smooth emerge.... I compiled a bash 2.05a and the problem vanished... pervious version was 2.05b-r7, I don't know if it's a general bug of the b version or has been introduced by an -r release
evolution-1.4.4 builds fine here with bash-2.05b-r7, although I can't vouch for gnumeric or xchat. Can you post your emerge info?
Please note, that on forums.gentoo.org was a thread about it - it has been confirmed that certain packages hat problems with b-r7, and it was reported that b-r5 would restore functionality. emerge info: Portage 2.0.49-r3 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1, 2.4.22_pre2-gss) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.22_pre2-gss i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz distcc 2.10 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fstack-protector" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/share/config /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /var/bind /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fstack-protector" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="sandbox ccache autoaddcvs fixpackages strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://www.fhh.opensource-mirror.de/gentoo.org/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 oss apm avi crypt cups encode foomaticdb gif jpeg libg++ mad mikmod mmx mpeg ncurses nls pdflib png quicktime spell truetype xml2 xv zlib directfb gtkhtml alsa gdbm berkdb readline tetex aalib bonobo svga tcltk guile postgres X sdl gpm tcpd pam libwww ssl perl python esd imlib oggvorbis gnome gtk opengl mozilla ldap snmp cdr acpi afs apache2 dga dvd ethereal evo fbcon gb gd gps gtk2 imap innodb ipv6 kerberos maildir offensive pcmcia radeon sasl slp sse tiff trusted usb xface -arts -java -kde -qt -xmms -slang -motif"
Phillip: Happen to have a link to the forums thread detailing this oddity?
This bug hasn't received any attention in 90 days or more. bash-2.05b-r7, is the current stable version in use on my system and many others. I could not reproduce this bug. I suspect that this bug is not bash's fault. I'm closing this as NEEDINFO. If it can still be reproduced, please reopen this bug and supply new "emerge info".
