Description Martin McDermott 2003-08-29 14:37:29 UTC
Portage will skip to ebuilds when its installing Xfree.

after i install xfree from the disc and run 'emerge -p xfree' i get
cabextract is new(and not installed)
xfree is marked R

X -showconfig say command not found, x never gets installed

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. USE="bindist" emerge -k xfree
2. emerge -p xfree
3.

Actual Results:
X wasnt installed

Expected Results:
X being installed

Alot of the GRP are broken

GRPs could be very usefull, then we would only have to compile things once per
versio-arch.

Why release it if it wont work, no one will be warned and if no one will take
responsibilty? This is all Gentoo has.

I am not quite sure I understand the bug. USE="bindist" emerge xfree should install xfree, does it? When you do it without bindist, it will want to merge cabextract since it will try to install the Microsoft Web fonts. Is X merging? If not, what error do you see?

Rereading this report, it does sound like xfree got installed and what you saw is expected behavior, so I'm closing this bug.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
