There is a static target in ebtables. Would be great if one
could build that with use flag.

Thank you for report. All libs ebtables uses are at /lib/. Why do you need static ebtables?

It is just much esier to deal with one binary when installing it on
an embedded board. It is also small.

Ok, I've added required changes and put ebuild into overlay.

svn co http://overlays.gentoo.org/svn/dev/pva/net-firewall/ebtables

But I'm still unsure how useful this is. 

@embedded: could you comment here on subject, please?

does ebtables only install one binary ?  if so, some embedded people like to toy around with just one static binary as it makes quick testing simple.

Yes, only one binary and it is pretty small too.

Ok, I've pushed ebuild with static USE flag to the tree. HTH.
