When upgrade from gentoo-sources-2.6.29-r5 to gentoo-source-2.6.30-r1, starting X(KMS enabled) will cause the whole system dead. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge gentoo-sources-2.6.30-r1, compiling it with KMS enabled (http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/KMS#Kernel_Mode_Setting) 2.startX Actual Results: A black screen, the whole system seems dead No Xorg.xx.log generated. Hardware:(ASUS Z9100N) Pentium M 1.6G, 855GM Environment: gentoo-2.6.30-r1 Xorg 1.6.1.901-r4 xf86-video-intel-2.7.1 glibc-2.10.1 libdrm-2.4.11 dri2proto-2.1 xf86driproto-2.0.4 linux-headers-2.6.29 gcc-4.3.3-r2
Please post your "emerge --info" and attach your xorg.conf (in case you're using one) and the .config file of the kernel this happens with.
Reopen this bug when you provide the requested information.

Hi! I have the same exact problem. System is almost the same with some addicional updates that appeared after this bug was reported. This is a fresh system install so I didn't had X working previously.
just tested with vanilla-sources-2.6.31-rc6 and it works. so this is a kernel bug and a patch already. going to try to find out which one patch made it work.
