Description Bill Kenworthy 2009-06-21 01:01:32 UTC
An maintenance update in 2.6.29 reiserfs intoduced a regression - emails indicate this should have been fixed in 2.6.30, but obviously not.

see "http://www.pubbs.net/kernel/200904/53310/" or google for kernel slowpath for more

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
kernel oops

Expected Results:
no oops!

Unfortunately trapping the oops to display here isnt easy as the file system is reiserfs which is un-writable after the oops, but details are in the reference above. I have two systems that suffer from this (basicly can only run 2.6.28 or earlier), plus more that I dont want to risk by trying.

I would first install vanilla sources 2.6.30.1 and test to see if the error occurs. If it does, I would bring this back upstream and report the fact that this is a similar error post patch fix.

You will also need to post the oops for confirmation on the upstream bug. Either type it by hand off the screen on another computer or possibly take a digital picture.

Once you have opened the upstream bug you can reopen this bug and post the url here.
