When upgrading to PyQt-4.5 I had to unmerge elltube-0.3-r1, because of:
RDEPEND="<dev-python/PyQt4-4.5[X]"
I understand this has something to do with bug 272136, but after downgrading to elltube-0.3, which is essentially the same ebuild without "<", it seems to work perfectly.
Is there any specific reason not to build it with PyQt-4.5?

Reasonable question; let's see what the maintainer has to say about version restriction, since he only mentioned use deps in the other bug

When elltube-0.3 released, there was no PyQt4-4.5 so the upstream said that PyQt4-4.4.4 is a strict dependency. I havent tested PyQt4-4.5 with this application. I am going to and fix the dependency if it works for me

Better be safe than broken ;)

Workis ok with PyQt4-4.5. So I fixed the dependency
