For the last two days, I have been unable to connect to Yahoo IM using Kopete on both my desktop (amd64) and my netbook (x86). The netbook dual boots w/ WinXP, and YIM connects without a hitch. I tried uninstalling Kopete, emerge --depclean, and reemerging Kopete in case there was something I missed after a forced -kdeprefix rebuild today. Still no luck. When I run it from a konsole terminal and attempt to change my status to "Online," I get the following output: gregg@bianchi ~ $ kopete Calling appendChild() on a null node does nothing. Calling appendChild() on a null node does nothing. KDE bug report https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197104 Seems to indicate others are having problems. ...which references this bug report at the bottom http://trac.adium.im/ticket/12404 Suggests changing the Yahoo server to a specific IP address, 66.163.181.106. Making this change and restarting Kopete appears to have resolved my issue getting connected. At least for now.
Well, I don't think the issue is specific to any version of Kopete. It appears Yahoo is screwing around with their servers and/or protocol. I now have to use cn.scs.msg.yahoo.com, their Canadian server, to get connected to Yahoo Messenger. For more information, check out this forum thread: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/389278
Fixed in 4.2.4-r1.
