Description Philip Ward 2009-06-19 14:35:01 UTC
The man page for audacious2 states that cursor keys left and right seek 5 seconds in the file. Either of these keys send playback to the beginning of the current file. I'm using pulseaudio as the output plugin.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Build audacious
2. Select pulseaudio plugin
3. Load and play mp3
4. Drag position bar to somewhere in the middle of the song.
5. Hit a left or right cursor key. Playback jumps to beginning of song.
Actual Results:
Left and right cursor keys jump playback to beginning of file.

Expected Results:
Left and right cursor keys seek backwards and forwards 5 seconds in file.

Comment 3 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-06-22 15:40:45 UTC
Thank you, this upstream changeset is likely to resolve the problem:
changeset: 4990:6134e37b71be
user: John Lindgren <john.lindgren@tds.net>
date: Sat May 16 13:01:20 2009 -0400
summary: Wait for playback to initialize before returning from playback_run. Prevents failed seeks in WMA plugin, maybe others.

Could you check this in 2.1-alpha1-r1 by issuing:
echo "media-sound/audacious" >> /etc/portage/package.unmask
echo "media-sound/audacious" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "media-plugins/audacious-plugins" >> /etc/portage/package.unmask
echo "media-plugins/audacious-plugins" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge audacious audacious-plugins
Comment 4 Philip Ward 2009-06-23 08:06:51 UTC
Thanks for that Tony. I tried it and the 5 second seeking is behaving a little better. However, if I use it several times it eventually hangs audacious. The console has so far reported one of the following errors when freezing.

madplug: Exiting on error 257.
madplug: Exiting on error 568.
madplug: Exiting on error 260.

Is this a bug for the madplug folks?

Personally, I'd try switching the output plugin over to ALSA. If that works fine, then the bug is in the PulseAudio outplug plugin, which is rather new. If not, then the bug is in the seeking logic or in libmadplug.
In either case, I would recommend filing a bug upstream at http://jira.atheme.org/ for the audacious-plugins product to help ensure that Audacious 2.1 will work for you when released.

Comment 6 Philip Ward 2009-06-23 12:50:29 UTC
It's not pulse, since the same thing happened using the Alsa output plugin. I'll get in touch with the audacious guys.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Phil.
