Description Michal Špondr 2009-06-19 00:52:23 UTC
After I play the last song in playlist, which is the ogg filetype, the audacious stuck. It doesn't react and I have to kill it. There are no such problem while playing mp3s.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make a playlist and put an .ogg file at the end of it
2. Play the last song in the playlist
3. After it finish, you can still choose another songs in playlist (using one-click), but after you double-click on it (= try to play the song), the audacious stuck.

Actual Results:
audacious stuck if the last song in a playlist is an ogg file

Expected Results:
audacious shouldn't stuck

This started happening to me too, as soon as I upgraded to audacious-2.0.1 / audacious-plugins-2.0.1. I never had this problem with the old audacious series.

Once an ogg track is done playing, audacious fails to load the next track in the playlist. After you double-click on another track, audacious hangs completely. I tried running audacious from a terminal, but there is no error output when it locks up. I also tried running it with strace, but there wasn't anything obvious (to me at least) in the output.

It doesn't seem to happen with mp3's, so perhaps it's a problem with the ogg decoder plugin?

Please test on 2.1_alpha-r1, which is in the tree but masked:
echo "media-sound/audacious" >> /etc/portage/package.unmask
echo "media-plugins/audacious-plugins" >> /etc/portage/package.unmask
emerge audacious audacious-plugins

Various playback start/stop routines were either rewritten or improved for this release, making it likely that it addresses the issue you reported.

The functionality broken in 2.0.1 seems to work in 2.1_alpha. I guess I'll have to use this hard masked version for now or manually mask 2.0.1.

This is a major bug that renders audacious unusable for many people. 2.0.1 should NOT be the stable version. These packages should either be moved back to testing or should be hard masked.

I do not agree. 2.0.1 has many fixes compared to 1.5.1; for which people see it fit to report bugs downstream (where there is nothing I can do about it) or upstream (where it is explicitly said that this old version is no longer supported).
Quantify "many people", as "3" to me equals "vocal minority". Thank you.
Comment 6 Martin Gebert 2009-06-22 12:50:34 UTC
I can confirm this, audacious also freezes for every advance in shuffle mode.

> I do not agree. 2.0.1 has many fixes compared to 1.5.1

Well, audacious 1.5 worked for me quite well for some time now, and mainly just playing songs up and down I didn't notice any major issues. 2.0.1 does *not* work for me in my *primary* use case, which I would indeed consider as "unstable".
Comment 7 Nathan Zachary (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-06-22 20:09:48 UTC
Same problems here with any .ogg file. Audacious-2.0.1 stalls completely on changing to the next track (whether in order of the playlist or on shuffle). I'm going to emerge the masked alpha version and report back on that status.

Many people = anyone who listens to vorbis (.ogg) audio files.

Comment 9 Nathan Zachary (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-06-22 20:43:41 UTC
After installing 2.1 alpha, playback of any .ogg is choppy and then freezes Audacious completely. I guess for now, I will have to go back to 1.5.1 as well. If any further information from my machine will help with these issues, please just ask.

Comment 10 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-06-22 21:01:33 UTC
As you wish.
Note that 1.5.1 is unsupported upstream and that I will not accept patches for it.

Comment 12 George Kargiotakis 2009-06-24 10:53:05 UTC
I am using audacious 2.0.1 and I can't reproduce the bug. I am playing ogg files in random just fine. But I searched a bit about this bug and I've found that debian has a similar bug report and has produced a fix for it: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=531835
You can find the patch in the last part of http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/a/audacious-plugins/audacious-plugins_2.0.1-3.diff.gz.
I've attached the patch.
Those who have problems with version 2.0.1 and ogg files can see if that patch resolves it for them.

2.1 has many more fixes compared to 2.0.1; I have abandoned 2.0.1 for stabling and will concentrate on 2.1 instead. Our arch teams are busy people and they would not appreciate having two stable two versions of Audacious in rapid succession.
If you have problems, unmask 2.1_alpha2. If that does not work perfectly, report a bug upstream at http://jira.atheme.org/
Thanks.
