Description Keith Edmunds 2002-05-15 05:09:47 UTC
Booting the Gentoo 1.1a ISO with a ProSavage graphics card gives vertical lines
on screen. This bug appears to be a 2.4.18 kernel referred to at
http://groups.google.com/groups?
hl=en&threadm=linux.kernel.1016639993.025783.8294.nullmailer%
40bozar.algorithm.com.au&rnum=5&prev=/groups%3Fhl%3Den%26q%3Dasus%2Ba7vc%
2Bchipset

Managed to install Gentoo using a different graphics card; after installation
the original ProSavage worked OK, so maybe this is fixed in 2.4.19? In which
case a new iso with a .19 kernel may be all that is needed.

any updates on this, keith?
Comment 2 Keith Edmunds 2002-05-27 11:05:39 UTC
Given that once I had installed Gentoo and built the 2.4.19 kernel the problem
went away, no! I assumed that the problem was the fact that the Gentoo 1.1a ISO
was using a 2.4.18 kernel, which apparently has a problem with those cards (see
URL quoted earlier). If you have updated 1.1a to use 2.4.19 and you'd like it
tested, point me to the ISO image and I'll try it for you.

Ah well, the 1.2 ISO uses 2.4.19, afaik so this is hopefully a non-issue now :)

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
