It seems that dev-python/lxml which is used by installer is not listed in the dependecies for vmware-player-2.5.2.156735 line 11, in <module> from lxml import etree ImportError: No module named lxml I saw bug 232230 where the this same problem existed for an earlier version. emerging dev-python/lxml fixed the problem however when trying to emerge dev-python/lxml I would get an error that cython-0.9.6 or higher was required. I had cython-0.9.8 but upgrading to the latest (0.11.2) seemed to clear this error away.
