Description David Radice 2009-06-13 14:47:56 UTC
The system just hangs randomly, more often when on-load. Nothing is left on the logfiles, but I was able to get a trace of the kernel panic via network console (see the next attachment).

I have tried using sys-kernel/vanilla-sources-2.6.29.4, but I have the same problem with it.

sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.27-r8 works fine, and the configuration used for these newer kernel comes from the configuration used for this kernel (with some minor modification).

Another symptom is a noisy whine when the CPU is idle.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.boot
2.do some stuff
3.

Actual Results:
kernel panic

Expected Results:
everything working

Portage 2.1.6.13 (default/linux/amd64/2008.0/desktop, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r1, 2.6.27-gentoo-r8 x86_64)

Comment 5 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2009-07-16 00:25:06 UTC
Does it occur with gentoo-sources-2.6.30-r2?
Comment 6 David Radice 2009-07-20 19:02:54 UTC
I have been using gentoo-2.6.30-r{2,3} for three days without issues now: as I was always able to reproduce this bug within 4-5 hours of use with the older kernels I guess that 2.6.30 actually fixes the bug.
