While using the LiveCd 1.4 (for pentium 4 more specifically), I was never able to get the Token Ring card to work properly with the 'gentoo' image (kernel 2.4.21-gss). This was using an IBM Token Ring 16/4 Auto ISA PNP. After proper configuration, I was not able to ping anything (Destination host unreachable), even by IP, except for the broadcast address. I found out that the card was not transmitting data (I knew the card was working wince I used it under mandrake). I also thing the same problem occur with the PCMCIA Token Ring support (module ibmtr_cs), but I didn't double checked the transmition problem with that card (it was a 3com Token Link III 3c689). I was able to get the card to work using the other image ('smp') (kernel 2.4.20-xfs-r3). With that image, I did as with the previous (for the ibmtr module), and it worked the first time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. load using: gentoo 2. insmod ibmtr 3. net-setup tr? 4. ping a.b.c.d (note ? is a number and a.b.c.d is an IP) Actual Results: I got a ping error: Destination Host Unreachable When checking 'ifconfig', we can see that nothing got transmitted. Expected Results: A ping reply with time 'ifconfig' should show that something got transmitted Computer configuration is: Athlon 1.2 Ghz in Sock A form (first generation of Socket A) 256Mb ram 80Gb+75Gb hard drive dvd reader(pioneer) + cd-rw (asus) matrox g400 DH SM'56 modem pinnacle system DV 500+ hollywood+ mpeg2 decoder sound blaster live IBM Token Ring 16/4 Auto ISA PNP Note that the last item, the network card, would normally be a Madge Presto PCI 2000 token ring card, but since gentoo livecd doesn't have any driver for I had to change it for installation purpuses (it would be nice to put drivers for next time).
i use the kernel module olympic
Hopefully fixed on newer livecds, please reopen if issue still exists.
