Description Malte E. 2009-06-12 11:38:01 UTC
currently, only mesa-6.5.2-r1 and mesa-7.3-r1 are stable for most architechtures. Why? They are both labeled development releases by the mesa project.
mesa-7.0.3, 7.2 and 7.4.x which are released as stable by the mesa project are still masked unstable by Gentoo.
Is there any reason for this? If not, I would strongly suggest to always try to have stable versions of mesa as stable ebuilds in the tree.
btw. I am using mesa-7.4 and I don't have any problems so far.

Reproducible: Always

Did you actually take a look at mesa's 7.3-r1 ebuild? Did you see that there are about 60 patches in it? Do you realize it's actually much closer to 7.4 than you might think?

Do you also think we don't know all this?

Bottom line, we'll stabilize what we have _time_ to stabilize.

Thanks
