I have WM-fluxbox-1.1.1. When XDMCP is enabled in gdm, and multiple users log in, it appears that only the latest user is shown when doing a user listing with the w, who or users command. The output of 'last' is correct though. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Enable XDMCP 2. Log in 2 users 3. type w Actual Results: Only the last user to log in is shown Expected Results: All users logged in should be shown Portage 2.1.6.11 (uxs/amd64/0.0/uts, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r1, 2.6.28-gentoo-r5j1 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.28-gentoo-r5j1-x86_64-Intel-R-_Xeon-R-_CPU_E5345_@_2.33GHz-with-glibc2.2.5 Timestamp of tree: Thu, 21 May 2009 01:45:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 3.2_p39 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.7 dev-lang/python: 2.5.4-r2 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.11.1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.26 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.27-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=nocona" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/opt/distfiles" FEATURES="distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://mirror.yandex.ru/gentoo-distfiles/" LANG="ru_RU.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,--enable-new-dtags" LINGUAS="ru en" MAKEOPTS="-j5" PKGDIR="/opt/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS="--exclude-from=/usr/portage/local/layman/crg/profiles/exclude" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage/local/layman/crg" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X amd64 berkdb bzip2 cli cracklib crypt cups dbus dri foomaticdb gif glib gnome gtk iconv imlib isdnlog jpeg ldap logrotate midi mmx mudflap multilib nautilus ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin openmp pam parport pcre perl png ppds pppd python readline reflection samba scanner server session snmp spell spl sqlite sse sse2 ssl svg symlink tcpd threads tiff truetype unicode userlocales vim-syntax vnc webdav wxwindows xinetd xorg xpm zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="ru en" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="fbdev glint i810 intel mach64 mga neomagic nv r128 radeon savage sis tdfx trident vesa vga via vmware voodoo" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS
please try with gdm-2.20.10-r1 and pambase-20090515 (it works just fine here, it even lists open terminals)
I have already tried such variant, but without updating pambase. The result was the same. I do not think that if to update pambase, something to change. The result of registration with sessreg differs from built-in in gdm: each user has unique id lines. In a case with gdm it always same. The code does not differ at 2.20.10 from 2.20.9! I have made a patch and I think today to me it will be possible to check up it.
Created attachment 194752 [details] GDM custom config Forget about that.
So you need to have those Utmp lines to make it work ? There is something really wrong in your setup I believe.
thanks for the utmp lines, it did it for me.
Created attachment 198512 [details, diff] UTMP fix With that fix I have working gdm.
Could you report this upstream (at bugs.gnome.org) to see what they think about this patch ?
Could you guys paste the output of ls -l /var/run/utmp ?
