When trying to emerge ntfsprogs on my gcc 2.95.3 system the configure step fails with the message: checking version of gcc... 2.95.3, bad configure: error: Please upgrade your gcc compiler to gcc-2.96+ or gcc-3+ version! Earlier compiler versions will NOT work as these do not support unnamed/annonymous structures and unions which are used heavily in linux-ntfs. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. set up a system with gcc 2.95.3 (such as the default-1.0 profile) and without gcc 3 2.emerge ntfsprogs Actual Results: configure fails with the abovementioned error message
az: will we ever have 2.96 or shall we just mask ntfsprogs for gcc-3.x and higher ?
Nope. 2.96 is dead as well, and less supported by most than 2.95.3 because of its legendary brokeness ...
ntfsprogs now is in category sys-fs and has proper dependencies. This bug can be closed
