Description Pieter Van den Abeele (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-25 16:41:04 UTC
Since this project is no longer maintained upstream (at least no new releases, homepage seems to have vanished), and there is a problem with correctly configurating X on a 17inch pb, we might look into a new maintainer for the tool or a new way of creating a good X config.

added upstream developer to cc field

Hey Pieter

The stuff is offline, yes.. when they nuked my gentoo web dir they nuked
all my active projects with it and I havent put them back up. I'm no longer
working on them at all (in fact barely running linux on desktop at all)

My honest suggestion is to update the latest Xautoconf in portage if it's
not up to date. It does a pretty decent job of things now, and with a couple
small wrapper scripts it could work quite similar to Xeasyconf ... the problems
with the nvidia and fbdev aren't easily solved, and I don't have the time
or ambition to do so right now and as I mentioned before now that Xautoconf
is mostly functional again I don't think Xeasyconf is that necessary any
longer.

Oh ... also to note, I did some patches on the first Xautoconf in portage
to accomodate the layout of things in Gentoo PPC (which were refused upstream
and led to writing Xeasyconf) ... I think since then those patches have been
added (for alternate mouse/kbd stuff) .. but if not the patch may still be
in portage.

If you have a good candidate for Xeasyconf I wouldn't be opposed to someone
taking over the project or making a new branch of it if they desire. I might
still have some dev versions around somewhere in my backups .. I had a mostly
automated version of it as well (which Xautoconf does a lot better anyway
so I didn't bother to finish).

We'll switch to Xautocfg.
