lcdproc 0.5.3 comes with a mx5000 driver that needs the mx5000tools library. I will add a useflag to support it if the ebuild is could be contributed and maintained by someone.
tester, since you are upstream, do you have interest?

I will fix the netpbm thing upstream and release a new version and put it in the tree.. Or something.

This bug has made no progress for years. Can we please confirm whether this package is still wanted?

If it isn't, or if there is no response within 30 days, we will close this bug.
