I read the handbook for Alpha, and when I got to http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-alpha.xml?part=1&chap=10 , I did not read the line # echo '0:2/boot/vmlinux.gz root=/dev/sda2' > /etc/aboot.conf because its written in the "Automatically booting Gentoo" part. As I didn't want to boot gentoo automatically, I considered not needing to create the aboot.conf file under /etc. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. read doc and do want its told, with suiting to your need 2. skip a part that does not concerns you 3. workstation does not boot Actual Results: workstation unable to boot because could not find /etc/aboot.conf Expected Results: find aboot.conf and boot
User error, sorry. We expect users to read our handbooks and the recommended manpages (abootconf, etc.) and provided URLs. CCing the Alpha team in case they have comments or suggestions.
Well, one could move that first line to the listing directly above the one it's in now. But somebody somebody just skimming the doc might miss it there, too.
