Description Robert Varga 2009-05-26 08:26:43 UTC
After being unable to cope with the load, hq.alert.sk underwent a HW upgrade and is once again ready to serve as rsync1.sk.gentoo.org.
Details:
- IP address is 195.95.205.245
- rsync service administrator is Robert Varga <nite@hq.alert.sk>
- HW configuration is Opteron 2354/8GB RAM/mirrored 250GB SATA disks
- max_connections is set to 200
Please consider reinstating the ACL for rsync1.us.gentoo.org and the DNS entry.

Reproducible: Always

I see your mirror is still in date. This is excellent news. The mirror-admin team has been understaffed. I can process this bug soon. Thanks for being patient.

You are in the testing system now.

Your mirror seems to frequently lag by an hour or so. What intervals are you syncing at and from where?

The source is rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage, syncing every hour at 04 and 34.

Looking into sync logs, I see the following errors quite frequently:

Started update at Tue Oct 13 09:34:01 CEST 2009
rsync: on remote machine: --no-specials: unknown option
rsync error: requested action not supported (code 4) at clientserver.c(473)
rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(759) [receiver=3.0.6]
End: Tue Oct 13 09:34:02 CEST 2009
Comment 5 Robert Varga 2009-10-21 16:30:54 UTC
Switched the source to rsync1.de.gentoo.org, hopefully this will fix the lag-behind issue.

What rsync command are you using? The one specified on http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml (Code listing 3.2) ?

It has gotten worse, at Sat Oct 24 01:56:08 UTC 2009

271276 rsync ERROR Portage at rsync://195.95.205.245 is lagging (delta is 00d 15h 40m 54s)
Comment 8 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2009-10-27 19:19:08 UTC
Robert, the lag went away. Must have been a specific problem with your source there.

Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added the IP you specified in the bug to our access database, please start syncing to rsync1.us.gentoo.org per our rsync document at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors+subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send our notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Once again, thanks for the hardware and bandwidth! You are mirror rsync4.sk.gentoo.org in the rsync.sk.gentoo.org rotation and have been added to the rsync.europe.gentoo.org rotation as well.
