Description Jon Allbon 2003-08-22 05:45:10 UTC
The install procedure listed in http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-
install.xml isn't the same as the documentation in /mnt/cdrom/gentoo of the
LiveCD. The web-based version seems to be missing a few pieces of information,
which makes the install impossible for a newbie such as myself.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

This is a known problem. At the moment, there is nothing really we can do about it because we are in the process of ditching the plaintext file on the CDs for a more efficient model.

I could be wrong though, someone want to correct me here?

We can't go at your home and fix the downloaded iso, can we? Every time the installation guide is altered, a new set of LiveCDs will be uploaded shortly thereafter. However, and the guide clearly states this, the online installation document is *always* the most recent one.

well thanks for the last comment!! As I said in the original message, I am a newbie to this and not always sure what I'm doing. Comments such as the last one are the kind of thing that frighten people away from using these systems and make them use Microsoft OS's.

Thank you to Zack for the sensible comment. I have now resolved the issue and am happily working again.
