The as-installed /etc/ntp.conf of ntp-4.2.4_p6 says "... be sure to add '-Y -N' to the dhcpcd_ethX variables". However, these options are not documented in dhcpcd-4.0.7 (`dhcpcd --help', `man dhcpcd'). I guess the ntp.conf should be aligned with the current default dhcpcd package.
Roy: could you suggest the updated comments ? the current one reads: # NOTES: # - you should only have to update the server line below # - if you start getting lines like 'restrict' and 'fudge' # and you didnt add them, AND you run dhcpcd on your # network interfaces, be sure to add '-Y -N' to the # dhcpcd_ethX variables in /etc/conf.d/net
Well, the default dhcpcd-4.x behaviour is just to append servers to ntp.conf via magic markers so they can be removed by dhcpcd also. The markers clearly state dhcpcd and the options to congfigure dhcpcd not to handle NTP are clearly stated (I think) in dhcpcd(8) and dhcpcd.conf(5) and the default /etc/dhcpcd.conf. I would update the NTP comment to read something like so. DHCP clients can append or replace NTP configuration. You should consult your DHCP client documentation about its default behaviour and how to change it.
thanks, ive done that http://sources.gentoo.org/net-misc/ntp/files/ntp.conf?r1=1.18&r2=1.19
