Description Johannes Kimmel 2009-05-20 08:40:38 UTC
since the last update of pango firefox and opera crashed awesome after browsing more than 2-3 pages. it is reproduceable, when you open a page that crashed the window manager again.

dmesg:
awesome[4464]: segfault at 0 ip 0000003470c2476e sp 00007fffedc6c4a0 error 4 in libpango-1.0.so.0.2400.2[3470c00000+42000]

a downgrade to version 1.24.1 solved the problem.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open firefox or opere within awesome
2. surf until a page crashes the wm

Please provide a detailled backtrace of the crash. See [1] for informations on how to do that.

Comment 3 Shaun Attfield 2009-07-07 16:19:24 UTC
This error is present in pango-1.24.2 and pango-1.24.3.

It is not necessary to browse "more than 2-3 pages", any page that triggers appears to trigger all the time.
Examples of a pages that triggers are:
http://shaver.off.net/diary/2008/05/25/fsyncers-and-curveballs/ or http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1299897/
Comment 4 Romain Perier (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-07-07 16:54:36 UTC
Yeah but please give a full backtrace anyway, without any backtrace it could very difficult to find the problem, or to get a verbose stack when the crash happens.
Comment 5 Romain Perier (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-07-09 11:41:56 UTC
pango bumped into the tree to 1.24.4, this release bugfix fixes a crash.
May be the same crash as your ... can you test it ?
If the crash is still present, please attach a backtrace.
Comment 6 Shaun Attfield 2009-07-09 22:47:19 UTC
pango-1.24.4 appears to have resolved the issue, but there was a brief (about a week) period with 1.24.3 when the problem did not occur.
I am loath to call this "resolved" until a bit of time has passed and the problem is shown to be gone.
I will report back in a few days.
Comment 7 Romain Perier (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-07-10 06:06:01 UTC
Okay, Feel free to re-open this bug in few days if your problem rehappens.
And in this case have a look to http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml

Thanks

Hey i hope it wasn't wrong to reopen the bug, but i can't understand why pango version 1.24.2 is still in the stable tree. Even if there might be a few bugs open about version 1.24.4/5 at least they do work. But version 1.24.2 is quite unusable!
