I'm wondering whether "Categories=Education;Science;" within /usr/share/applications/boinc_gui-boinc.desktop should be better be set to "Math;Science;" or not ?

I personally would keep it in the existing place, as it is general science related and not specially math.
If you want to have a change think about something which represents the distributed computation.

Oh yes
Currently my boinc icon is located under the KDE (3.5.10) menu entry named "Science & Math" whereas the original boinc desktop entry pointed to a submenu entry called "Edutainment"->"Science" and the first was irritating me.

If it makes you happy i adjusted it into math;science;
