In bug #260196 media-plugins/gst-plugins-gconf was added as a dependency to the quodlibet ebuild. Actually gconf is not absolutely necessary to run quodlibet. From man 1 quodlibet: AUDIO BACKENDS Quod Libet uses GStreamer for audio playback. It tries to read your GConf GStreamer configuration, but if that fails it falls back to osssink. You can change the pipeline option in ~/.quodlibet/config to use a different sink, or pass options to the sink. For example, you might use esdsink or alsasink device=hw:1. I run quodlibet fine without the gconf/gst-plugins-gconf dependency from the modfied ebuild at http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~wagnerflo/wagnerflo-overlay/wagnerflo-overlay/files/head%3A/media-sound/quodlibet/ (has an additional USE flag gconf which I don't set).
