I'm mentoring lxnay, you might know him from Sabayon project. He has finished ebuild-quiz.txt, and we have reviewed it. I'm pleased with the answers. Quoting his own words about areas of intrest, <lxnay> Portage, but the codebase learning curve is a bit tough (even if I know some of the internals), and GNOME/KDE <lxnay> g/k herds
For reference as to history that lxnay has with many developers: http://archives.gentoo.org/gentoo-dev/msg_47658466b9e59d38f17188699e7b89da.xml
I've sent the ebuild-quiz.txt to recruiters@.
(In reply to comment #1) I make amend :)
I just want to clarify my position about what's being discussed in #gentoo-core I guess. We live in different countries and have different "jokes" thresholds. During those days I felt that some devs were trying to make fun of me in a bad way, especially on #gentoo-dev and here is the reaction. I am not here to subvert your hierarchy and I have good intentions. My team is working with gnome and kde herds for some time and we have improved our upstream bug submission policy. What we all want is the "good" of Gentoo. I'm not here to flame war nor to fight with any other dev. If somebody has problems with me, don't hesitate to contact me on IRC anytime. So, while you are discussing about my position and what I wrote in the past, please consider that truth is always in the middle. I can make mistakes, you can make mistakes. The important thing is clarifying eachothers. So, what about doing it now? :)
We need to make sure that we schedule a discussion between you and devrel/recruiters before we all go forward. But I'm all for you becoming a developer under the right conditions. Denis.
Anytime and thanks for this opportunity.

In order to join existing projects you need the approval of the respective project leader.
As I wrote, I think I could be of help in sys-apps/portage development and/or into GNOME/KDE herds. I am going to talk with my mentor about this if I have to choose between the avail. options.
If noone else says ack i say for kde we will take him, if ssuomien is busy we can help with process too. :] Should i call for jorge or ACK from HT Lead is enought?
(In reply to comment #9) > > Should i call for jorge or ACK from HT Lead is enought? > jorge should drop ack here
Ok, I've talked to Fabio about him joining the KDE team and am interested in getting him on board.
(In reply to comment #0) > <lxnay> Portage, but the codebase learning curve is a bit tough (even if I know > some of the internals) I'm interested in getting him onboard with portage too.
I will take this as I have some knowledge about the history involved. General info: Always add a comment to this bug when you send something to recruiters@gentoo.org. When the quizzes are sent please contact me by IRC or email to schedule the first review session. If you think that recruiters aren't paying attention to this bug at any later point in time, it's your job to ping us on IRC if you don't want any delays.
I am waiting for Samuli to review my end-quiz answers.
I've just sent my end-quiz answers to recruiters@
(In reply to comment #15) > I've just sent my end-quiz answers to recruiters@ > If you are still planning to become a dev see comment 13. If there's no activity in this bug by the end of this week I will close this bug.
Sorry, I am dropping you an email as I write.
Dropped polished version of end-quiz and ebuild-quiz to recruiters@
(In reply to comment #18) > Dropped polished version of end-quiz and ebuild-quiz to recruiters@ > As Fabio will be on vacation next week, there's no need for him to have access during that time so setup will be delayed until he comes back.
Fabio haven't been in vacation for quite a while. He has done everything we've asked from him. If there's reasons he can't be recruited, the recruiters should say so on the record here. If not, this should be moved on. Let's just not play any games.
The main reason is that Betelgeuse and I have opposite daily schedules, when I am available he's not and visa versa. Plus, he told me about issues in receiving my emails to recruiters@, can anybody check if it's all fine there? Is dev setup (after mentoring and quizzes sessions) something that takes so long? Quizzes have been sent several times actually (see recruiters@), requested ebuild too. So, just tell me what else I have to do, I really have no clue and don't want to disturb Betelgeuse every day asking for availability.
(In reply to comment #21) > The main reason is that Betelgeuse and I have opposite daily schedules, when I > am available he's not and visa versa. > The main reason is that already a couple times you did not show up when you were supposed to and I don't actively ping people as said in comment 13. Granted I wasn't around a couple times I said I would be but I didn't make an appointment to my calendar for those as we didn't have any concrete time. > Plus, he told me about issues in receiving my emails to recruiters@, can > anybody check if it's all fine there? > They did arrive some hours later. Basically finally when we were both around to do a final session, Fabio could not deliver a final version of the quizzes in a couple hours as the version he sent didn't have fixes from the review session. > Is dev setup (after mentoring and quizzes sessions) something that takes so > long? > Quizzes have been sent several times actually (see recruiters@), requested > ebuild too. > It doesn't take long if the recruit is active and shows up when he is supposed to. > > So, just tell me what else I have to do, I really have no clue and don't want > to disturb Betelgeuse every day asking for availability. > We still need to have that final session.
What we did: - LDAP - bugzilla - cvs/svn groups on cvs.gentoo.org - IRC-cloak - sent you your LDAP/mail password via encrypted mail To be done: - announcement - gentoo-core What you need to do: - subscribe to mailing lists with @gentoo.org address - request forum status bump in #gentoo-forums or by mail to forum-mods@gentoo.org (if you have a forums count) - send yourself mail to create .maildir - add yourself to mail aliases ( like java@gentoo.org ) see /var/mail/alias on dev.gentoo.org - ask team leads to add yourself to herds.xml for the herds you want to join or do it yourself if you have the permission to do so - set lat and lon attributes in LDAP if you want others to know where exactly you are located - set gentooIM if you want people to be able to contact you via other means than email - If you want a blog on blogs.gentoo.org, contact planet@gentoo.org For the mentor: - You are also responsible for the commits of your recruit during the first month so you should watch the commits of your recruit via gentoo-commits mailing list.
lists done (I'm in Portland right now, i'll be home in 12 hours).
(In reply to comment #23) > > To be done: > - announcement > - gentoo-core > Announcement sent so everything in order here. If something is not working, ping recruiters on IRC or REOPEN this bug.
Thanks Betelgeuse. Thanks gentoo-kde and gentoo-portage. Thanks scarabeus, bonsaikitten, zmedico and joost.
Fabio expressed his desire to retire. Lets start with package re-assignment first.
I guess we wait the usual 15 days to reconsider, no? :|
(In reply to Pacho Ramos from comment #28) > I guess we wait the usual 15 days to reconsider, no? :| yep, sorry i thought it was implied
Its been 15 days, ping. -A
(In reply to Alec Warner from comment #30) > Its been 15 days, ping. > > -A It's not. The bug was re-opened on the 17th so the deadline ends on the 1st of July. What's the rush for?
infra can't wait to retire me it seems :) Even though the CoC hasn't been enforced in the past (which is the reason why I want to leave) and the behaviour of certain developers is still what it is, I decided to stick around for a bit more and give devrel and the council one more and last chance. This will also allow me to vote in the upcoming council elections and merge the logind work into the tree (which I've been working on for more than one month now).
Nice news :D
He is inactive for a long time
