Description Richard Hartmann 2009-05-10 05:35:34 UTC
I hadn't synced my portage tree for a few months. Now I received the first time, after running eix-sync the following message:

 * IMPORTANT: 1 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

The problem is that the command "eselect news" did not work, because eselect-news was missing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Sync your portage tree
2. Take care that "app-admin/eselect-news-20080320" is not installed
3. Run "eselect news" like the system tells you to.

Actual Results:
eselect news

Usage: eselect news <action> <options>

Expected Results:
The notice should have told me to emerge "app-admin/eselect-news-20080320" first or the merge of portage should have pulled it. After I had emerged "eselect-news-20080320" I could run the necessary command successfully.

=sys-apps/portage-2.1.6.11 depends on app-admin/eselect-news, no problem here. Do we want to have a warning for this?
Comment 2 Richard Hartmann 2009-05-18 20:14:36 UTC
I have just realized that eselect-news-20080320 was already installed before upgrading to the latest portage version and the second emerged fixed the problem. So the problem seems to me was inside the files of the eselect-news-20080320. I have therefore closed the bug. Sorry.
