I'd like to suggest mentioning known bugs that made it into the 1.4 release somewhere prominently on the website. QA failing is one thing but hiding the fact doesn't make it any better. Bugs that come to my mind are: genkernel (already mentioned) x86 stages chroot failing no SMP kernel on (basic)livecds GRP instructions containig wrong commands dhcpcd not working (I only heard that in #gentoo from several people) anything that impacts the installation really of course the status should be shown too and an easy fix/workaround It doesn't have to be on the main page, but somewhere accessable for people who want to install gentoo. I hope someone agrees with me. Everybody knows all people are volunteers, but I believe gentoo has a reputation to loose and therefore more work needs to be done. If anyone is interested in this I'd be willing to help. Thanks for making gentoo possible. I certainly appreciate the effort all of you put into this project. roger55 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Our bug tracker is publicly accessible for just this reason, and our doc team generally fixes errors in docs really quickly. I'm rolling up a maintenance release which should be available in about a week that will fix hordes of these annoying quirks.
Also, as I mentioned on irc, we're going to start doing release notes for each release which should address the issues you mention.
