Description SpanKY gentoo-dev 2003-08-17 12:58:23 UTC
Xouvert is the open, innovative X server that brings tomorrows technology to your
desktop today! Xouvert is an experimental branch of XFree86. We are doing everything
we can to make the barrier to entry low for potential contributors. Our organization
is inspired by that of the Linux kernel, Debian distribution, and GNOME and KDE
   desktops.

Xouvert will have a new stable release every six months. Security fixes and driver
fixes/updates will be made available daily in a form that is easy to install, or
even update automatically. We plan to make the source code more modular, to make
   this task easier.

Comment 3 Ian Leitch (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-10 08:08:51 UTC
If no ebuild turns up soon, I will write one.
Comment 4 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-10 09:55:41 UTC
They haven't really done anything yet, as far as I know.

Comment 6 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-10 16:56:41 UTC
"This is currently a developers/hackers release only, not intended for regular use by people who need guarantees of stability. When we move to beta stage, there will be tarballs, RPM's, and DEB files available here as well."

Does that sound like something that should be in portage?

Feel free to post ebuilds here, but they won't be going in the tree yet, at least.
Comment 7 Ian Leitch (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-11 07:18:09 UTC
On reflection, I'm going to wait until the gap between xvouert and xfree grows.
Comment 8 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-11 14:51:40 UTC
Good choice. =)
Although it may be nice material for an overlay, like the freedesktop stuff I've been doing.
Comment 9 Ian Leitch (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-11 15:17:01 UTC
That was my original intent, however I don't think its even worth it for an overlay at the moment.
