Do you start portmap on boot by default? Run rc-update to add that. It could be due to recent cross-blocked packages that you have installed rpcbind instead of portmap? Well you would have to unmerge portmap first, true. Myself wonder when I unmerge portmap and emerge rpcbind whether my shares will stop working until restart of rpcbind and client retries. That will probably show up on my nfs server soon. I am too lazy to study whether rpcbind could read the dump state of connection of portmap and pick it up on its own startup. :(
