Description 7v5w7go9ub0o 2009-04-26 19:47:02 UTC
portage is presently lxde-base/lxpanel-0.3.8.1!

Reproducible: Always

FWIW, there appears to be some lxde applications on that page that are not in portage (e.g. lxmusic, lxnetcat, lxnm, etc.). I wouldn't use them, but others might.

lxpanel 0.3.8.1 to 0.4.0 ebuild patch

Simply renaming the 0.3.8.1 ebuild to lxpanel-0.4.0.build and applying this patch, which simply removes the epatch line, works.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Rename lxpanel-0.3.8.1.build lxpanel-0.4.0.build
2. Apply patch (remove epatch line from the ebuild)
3. Digest the ebuild with `ebuild'
4. emerge
5. Run lxpanel

THANK YOU for replying, and for explaining how to approach this!

I'm guessing that you are NOT a package maintainer - in which case thanks again! I'm a newb and still mystified by ebuilds, epatches, creating new digests, etc., and I appreciate your detailed explanation on how to use portage and your patch to work around the currency issue.

TBH, I figured it'd be a while before this bug would be addressed, and there have been additional changes to other components since I reported it, so I've started installing the newer LXDE versions directly from their site. LXDE seems to be a fast mover, and there's been a lot of action (heh, two more today, and some very interesting stuff in svn.)

Certainly your work will help others.

Thanks Again.

LXDE is indeed a fast moving target, and exciting changes are happening. It is high time we bring the packages up to date in portage. I just haven't found the time to do so yet, and neither have the other members of our LXDE team. Please have a bit of patience yet, I hope to be able to do some work on LXDE this week.

I am extremely grateful for any/everything the Gentoo *volunteers* accomplish - please feel no pressure or complaints from here.

Especially in this economy, Gentoo volunteer maintainers will have plenty on the plate. I'm glad that users and maintainers can discuss problems and workarounds in this forum - eventually things will catch up.

Thanks for being a maintainer.

The sandbox patch is still necessary, so that returns also in the newest version, 0.4.1, which I just committed to portage. We still need to add an ebuild for the lxpanel-plugins tho.
