Description RoNiN 2009-04-22 18:13:11 UTC
Well, nautilus just tries to login but authentication fails, When pambase is compiled without ssh USE flag every thing is fine.

Reproducible: Always

sys-auth/pambase-20081028 was built with the following:
USE="consolekit cracklib gnome-keyring mktemp passwdqc sha512 ssh -debug (-selinux)"

There is no any visible error message but the timeout error. Just trying to connect sftp://localhost or another relevant host using nautilus will reveal the problem. Actually sftp itself is working correctly from commandline. The USE="ssh" flag's effect is immediate after etc-update. When ssh flag is removed, everything is fine with nautilus. Using ssh flag while compiling pambase makes nautilus wait until the request ends up with a timeout error. This error occurs even on nautilus's overlay version. This could be relevant to gnome-vfs or gvfs perhaps... I am a almost a noob about system internals so I couldn't decide whether I should complain about nautilus gvfs or gnome-vfs. Anyway, as a side note, I am using gvfs-1.0.3-r1 and gnome-vfs-2.24.1 ..
Comment 3 Nirbheek Chauhan (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-04-29 11:54:39 UTC
I cannot reproduce this with USE="consolekit cracklib gnome-keyring sha512 ssh -debug -mktemp -passwdqc -selinux" and nautilus-2.26.1 + gvfs 1.2.2
Comment 4 RoNiN 2009-04-29 21:13:34 UTC
Hmm.. I tried it but no luck.. I installed gvfs-1.2.2 and nautilus-2.26.2 same thing happens. When I build pambase with ssh flag and doing an etc-update right after; sftp://localhost gives timeout error.

The freenx server's overlay version had also the same problem during the authentication but Bernard Cafarelli had a patch for it. As far I understood from what he said, the problem was arising from the change made on the password query line from the console. Normally password is asked with "Password:" ; however, with ssh flag used in pambase installation it turns to "SSH Passphrase:"

I do not know what am I doing wrong.. Any extra info you want?

I'm reproduced: sys-auth/pambase-20100819 USE="consolekit cracklib gnome-keyring passwdqc sha512 ssh -debug -kerberos -mktemp (-selinux)"
Comment 6 Märt Bakhoff 2010-09-05 09:43:49 UTC
I'm not sure the problem is pambase. I also have this problem, but with pambase[-ssh]. Looks like some arch linux users have the same problem and they seem to think that openssh-5.6 broke nautilus.

Comment 7 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2010-12-23 19:54:05 UTC
I have no problems at all with Gnome 2.32 and pambase-20101024 with "pam_ssh" USE flag enabled

Please test if still valid
Comment 8 Märt Bakhoff 2010-12-23 20:40:35 UTC
Seems to be fixed. Related bug report in gnome's bugzilla:

Comment 9 RoNiN 2011-01-06 15:35:59 UTC
Seems everything fine now. I re-added pam_ssh USE flag to my global settings.

My system has the following related packages installed:

sys-auth/pambase-20101024 USE="pam_ssh"
gnome-base/nautilus-2.28.4-r1
net-misc/openssh-5.6_p1-r2
gnome-base/gvfs-1.6.3
