I attempted to install app-admin/mbr on my server (amd64 arch) but it appears the only version of the ebuild currently in portage (app-admin/mbr-1.1.10) is missing a keyword for amd64:

KEYWORDS="-alpha -ppc -sparc x86"

After copying the ebuild into a personal overlay and tweaking the KEYWORDS line to include amd64 it built, installed, and worked perfectly happily. I'd suggest adding ~amd64 to the KEYWORDS list if only to save others a bit of hassle?
