Although there is an 8.3.1 ebuild for postgresql, it looks to be no longer official from upstream (it's not on http://www.postgresql.org/ftp/source/). I don't see the ebuild on my linux Gentoo machine. I'm also not quite sure why it's trying to be installed, since it's keyworded as ~x86-macos ...
It was removed from gentoo-x86 11 days ago, so I removed this version from prefix. http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/dev-db/postgresql/postgresql-8.3.1.ebuild?hideattic=0&rev=1.4&view=log thx
