I had a similar pb with gentoo 1.4_rc4 but it was gcc which failed.
Then I start with stage 2 and it had work fine

Haven't seen this error and have no clue, assigning back to bug-wranglers...
Comment 2 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-08 13:54:32 UTC
Could you please try with a CHOST of 'i686-pc-linux-gnu' and NOT
i486-pc-linux-gnu?
Comment 3 John Davis (zhen) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-23 17:38:44 UTC
I have not seen this problem for awhile, I am assuming that it is and old prob. If it still persists, set your CHOST per azarah's instructions.
Comment 4 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-25 11:25:18 UTC
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
