Description Sven Vermeulen 2009-04-19 10:20:31 UTC
Mailed by Christophe Giacomotto:

Because xorg 1.5 requires hal to detect keyboard/mouse, you may want to add lines such as:

# /etc/init.d/hald start
# rc-update add hald default
# /etc/init.d/dbus start
# rc-update add dbus default

before testing the X environment.
I wasn't aware of this and it disabled my input devices.
hal is mentioned in the migration howto, but for all the ones doing fresh installs you may want to mention it.

Reproducible: Always

. . . except neither dbus nor hal are actually required for xorg-server 1.5. It's entirely possible to build the xserver without hal (check the hal USE flag).

Donnie from the X11 team mentioned awhile ago he intends to get together with us to go over the Xorg guide, so we'll have some other updates for 1.5 soonish.
