Hello, I searched on "xterm title" and did not find this error previously reported. I am running a current gentoo stable system on x86. x11-xterms/xterm-242 was recently marked as stable. it breaks window title changing (like via the bash PROMPT_COMMAND). I dropped back to the previous stable version -- x11-xterms/xterm-239 -- and it works as expected. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge a current stable system 2. start X windows 3. invoke xterm Actual Results: xterm title displays "xterm" on the window title. Expected Results: xterm window title should display the contents of the BASH environment variable PROMPT_COMMAND xterm title displays "xterm"; not the contents of the PROMPT_COMMAND. xterm invoked with -T works as expected. Adding "XTerm*allowTitleOps: true" and reloading ~/.Xresources via xrdb does not appear to change anything.
Please post your `emerge --info' too.

I confirm this. But this seems to belong to upstream since my xterm-242 on debian broke the same way also with downgrading helping out.
Please file a bug upstream and paste the url here, we'd really appreciate it since (obviously) most of us don't seem to use xterm. Thanks for your help
A bug report has been emailed upstream with a link to this bug report. Thanks
That's a cut/paste bug, which was reported by Matthieu Herrb on the xorg mailing list, and is fixed in ftp://invisible-island.net/temp/xterm-243c.patch.gz
@ Comment #6 Thanks for the followup on the bug report and thank you for your time!
Fixed by *xterm-248 (24 Sep 2009) 24 Sep 2009; Samuli Suominen <ssuominen@gentoo.org> +xterm-248.ebuild: Version bump. Per Comment #6 then.
